Way Back Wednesday:Football season is in full swing and the Carolina Panthers are having a great season with Cam Newton serving as the quarterback. Cam's father, Cecil Newton, attended Savannah State College and was featured in the 1983 Tiger’s Roar Yearbook.

The most familiar face for the tigers is, All-American safety man, Cecil Newton, who two years ago, was tied for the nation’s lead in interceptions with 11. He was equaled in 1980 only by Everson Walls who is now playing with the NFL Dallas Cowboys. A severe thigh injury caused Newton to be sidelined for the 1982 season, but he has completely healed and is in best shape of his career.
