During his tenure the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia granted the school university status (1996) and the institution was renamed Savannah State University (1996). Dr. John T Wolfe Jr served as president of Savannah State College from 1993 until 1997 The University System of Georgia ( USG) is the Organizational body that includes 35 public institutions of higher learning in Georgia.
